ttttooo mmmuch cccoffee

I hardly ever need a coffee fix in the morning. As soon as I'm vertical with brushed teeth and both eyes open (usually in that order) I'm wide awake. When I drink coffee, I do it for fun! Or for a mid afternoon fix. Or an early evening fix. Very rarely for a mid morning fix.

However, Tuesday night I slept so poorly that I was exhausted by the time I got home at 7 pm. I had to stay up for a while and finish a paper for one of my classes. But after that, I promptly hopped in bed, read a few pages of Jonathan Strange and passed out. I slept better last night because I went to the gym yesterday afternoon for the class Resist-a-ball.

--Just as a side note: that class was so much harder than I thought it would be! I was ready to quit 20 minutes in, but while I was doing jumping jacks I could feel every ounce of fat on my body and remembered that just 3 years ago, I had to try pretty hard to find anywhere on my body that was pinchable. Needless to say, I REALLY needed to stay through the entire class. And then some.--

Thursday mornings I have to eat lunch between 10 and 11 because it's my only break until after 3. So I usually get something light that doesn't taste weird so early in the morning - like sushi or Greek food or a bagelwich. This morning I decided on a bagelwich with turkey and sprouts. Yum! While I was paying, the sweet aroma of coffee drifted towards me and I just HAD to have a cup of the caramel flavored coffee. I went over to Manning Hall to eat at one of the sunny windows before class while reading my new favorite blog, Ballyhoos. (I was trying to read it at work (Park Library desk) but discovered I couldn't get through even one post without a snorted stifled chuckle escaping me. On more than one occasion, I had to duck down under the desk with my face in my hands so people wouldn't see me turning purple.)

SO back to my story - I have a terrible habit of putting my drinks down on a table, then opening my laptop in front of my drink and then forgetting all about it several minutes later. As I was balancing my bagelwich, laptop, drink, and backpack all on a spindly little hall table, things were a bit tight. At some point, I decided to push my laptop back a few inches so the sprouts wouldn't fall into my keyboard. Bad idea. My untouched "small" coffee (at least 15 oz - huge!) went flying. It took me many trips back and forth to the bathroom to get enough paper towels to clean up that mess.

I was sad about my coffee spilling. I felt pretty gypped. I considered running back to the Student Union and getting my free refill (you can't leave the building and then get a free refill - but I felt entitled) but I had to get to class. After my first class got out, I wasn't really in the mood for coffee anymore, but was still thinking about that cup I could have had earlier. I had about 20 minutes until the next class, so I scooted over to the Student Union and stole my free refill. I know that's dishonest and all, but it all evens out in the end. Not only does UNC overcharge for their food, but they also keep that "free" printing money that's part of student fees if you don't use it all. Especially because you CAN'T use it all. $30! And it's something like 5c a page. What's that - 20x30 = 600 pages? That's over a ream of paper. Per semester. I know people who have printed out all their required readings for class, plus all their assignments and STILL have an inordinate amount of money left over. That's nice and all, but not all the printing on campus is free either. There are only a few places on campus that allow you to print from that "free" printing account.

Somehow that entitles me to a free refill of my spilled beverage. At least I'm not filling the same cup multiple times per day between classes. Which I've thought about doing, honestly. Fountain drinks are something like $1.50!

Anyhow, I shouldn't have had that coffee during my public libraries seminar. That class usually gets me pretty hyped just from the discussions. Adding so much caffeine to the mix really jacked me up way too high this afternoon. My heart feels all jumpy and my mind is going way too fast for my own comfort. I'm going to be jittery all night now, I can feel it. I just hope I don't crash in the middle of my long shift tonight.

Sorry, long post. But that's what happens. Man caffeine is awful stuff!
