I guess a little over a month ago, I decided I wanted a scooter. The thing is, it's pretty hilly where I live and the little scooters that don't have to be registered and you don't have to have a license for (50cc engines) are restricted to 35 mph. So there's no way I'd be able to go up a hill at even 30 mph. I need a bigger engine in my scooter! That left me with either a 125 or a 150cc engine. You'd think that would open a lot of doors. Well think again...
The first most important thing I've learned about scooter purchasing is to make sure it's not a Chinese manufacturer. So, I'm down to Honda and Yamaha.
Oh yes, and I'm going to be picky about the looks of the thing. I don't want one of those mini crotch rocket things or a 1980s throwback scooter. I like the Italian-style ones! I'm really drawn to the styling of the Honda Metropolitan (above), but they only make it in 50cc. So Honda's out.
Only thing left on my list was the Yamaha Vino (above). A beautiful bike! Expensive, but beautiful. There was one for sale in Durham ($1800) but the sale fell through because of some body damage, so he took it off the market. I couldn't afford a brand-new one ($2595), so it's back to CraigsList for me. I trolled that thing for weeks and nothing came up.
Miraculously, one day I discovered the Genuine Buddy (above). It's made in Taiwan by PGO, a good company. The Buddy itself is a lot like the Vino, but I kept seeing reviews that rated it as a better bike! I lost all interest in the Vino, and for some reason, the list price for a new Buddy ($2595 - same price as a new Vino) wasn't looking too bad! Then I took a look at my bank account and decided to wait until after Christmas to make any purchases.
BUT THEN, YESTERDAY, the guy from Durham emailed me saying he's reposting his Vino for sale and wanted to let me know first. He's significantly dropping the price (to $1300) to account for the body damage (which didn't seem that bad to me, I just have to look at it again). The thing about buying it used is that it includes the after-market windshield, a cover, and 2 helmets. Sigh...

That is so cool! I want one too! Only, I don't really have a reason for one.
If it were me, I'd go with the used Vino.
