Oh how I wish I had my camera with me today at work! I have finally gotten around to re-cataloging the old videos... The first two weren't so difficult - plain old VHS. Then, I encountered a tape that looked at least a foot tall from 1973.I wish this image showed how huge the tape on the left really is. Ok I just measured it. It's 10 inches. So if you think VHS tapes at 7.5 inches are big, think again!
Anyway, it's a Betacam tape. But Betacam didn't even come out until 9 years after that, so I guess it's not even an original recording. Next on my cart were 12 tapes slightly smaller than the Beta, but not quite as evolved as the VHS. It took me FOREVER to figure out what these were! The format on the tape just said "Sony Cassette" but nothing else.
Here's a picture of a VHS on the left and a U-Matic on the right! The U-Matic was released in 1969. Interesting... Anyway, now that I know what these are, I can continue working. I just wanted to share this interesting experience.
