This one's for Allison

...so she has something to read in Google Reader, because I know how she feels!

I recently started using my iGoogle homepage and I heart it. Look how pretty it is!

Everything I need is on there. Everything except for a widget that allows me to post to Blogger. What's up with that? I can't find a widget for that anywhere. If I knew how to make one, I'd do it. And believe me, I've thought about it! If I had a widget like that, you better believe I'd post more often.

Anywho, I love it when my little Google Reader thing has new blog entries for me to read. All you folks in my blogs links in the left sidebar are Extremely Special because you're in my Google Reader! And if anyone reads this blog (wishful thinking, right?) that has a blog that's not listed in my sidebar, leave me a comment and give me the link so I can add you too! Then you too will be Extremely Special.

As for My Life, there are a few things happening:

  • My best friend Bronwyn is moving to Irvine, California in less than a week. We've been best friends for 11 years, but haven't seen each other a whole lot in the last 5 years, even though I moved back to Carrboro a year ago and we lived right down the road from each other for several months. We both just have had other stuff going on. But that time lapse didn't matter whenever we got together. We would carry on like we had just hung out the day before. I hope this means that the distance won't matter too much, but it still feels so weird knowing how far away she'll be. I also hope that the whole internet thing will make it easier to stay in touch. My mom's best friend from childhood lives in CA too and they're hardly ever in touch. She actually used Intelius to find my mom last year - that's how long it had been. I hope that doesn't happen to me and Bronni.

  • My summer school class started today: The History of Libraries. I'm pretty excited about that class. There are only 11 of us, and I really like my teacher (I had her for Cataloging II in the spring). When I turned in my final paper for Cataloging, she talked me into signing up for this class as well. It's definitely worth it though. It's one of those classes that's only offered in the summer, but I think it should be required. Shouldn't everyone be informed about the history of whatever field their career is in? I mean, even if it's something you don't think about every day (like the Roman method of surveying, for you GIS freaks :-P), you should learned about it at some point.

  • And right now, I'm currently trying to figure out how to squeeze in 11 hours of off-desk time into my busy schedule so I do a full 20 hours/week for my job in the Undergrad Library. I currently have 9 hours/week on the desk. Hmm.... Maybe I'll be able to cover shifts for people more. I hope so. I think my schedule will chill out a little bit more now that I have a regular daily class. Including class and work, I have a 36.5 hour work week. Throw in a bit of homework every day and I'll be well over 40 hours/week. But at least it's a regular schedule, finally. Meaning, I get up at the same time every day and I'll be home before dark every day (except for my Monday night shifts in Morrisville at the public library).

I feel special! Thank you! My friend Carmen has a blogger widget on her iGoogle so as soon as I can I will ask her what that widget is.

I know studying the history of GIS is important, but I'm too lazy to learn anything older than the computer age. :) Maybe if I ever go back to Grad School.

oh i wish i'd had a library history class in library school. mine was more a philosophy & issues/intro class where we learned a bit about everything. had a good teacher tho. how much longer do you have before earning your MLS?

I wish we had an intro class for LS! That is the biggest thing this program lacks. Our "intro" class that was a prereq for everything was a combined LS/IS class where we learned UNIX, HTML, CSS, Excel, and Access. Bleh. Nothing about libraries.

I'm one year down and one to go. Looking forward to joining the workforce! (I like to imagine myself as a librarian wielding a magical sword).

You can get a Blogger iGoogle widget here.

There's also an announcement about it.
